Jumping meets Boxing

It all really began eight months ago, when I was offered the chance to teach Jumping Fitness classes at a boxing club. Unusual at first, but it quickly became clear to me that there is hardly a better tool than the trampoline and Jumping Fitness for working on a boxer’s footwork. So I faced the challenge of reaching participants whose love is fitness boxing while also giving the Jumping fans their money’s worth. The result of my creativity was a class format that contains classic elements from Jumping Basic, strength endurance exercises for the arm and core muscles on and at the trampoline, and technically simple boxing exercises on the punchbag alternating with speed work for the legs on the jumping mat. Largely in the HIIT (high intensity interval training) format that is typical for me, and with interval music.

This class format is suitable for every fitness level, because you can work very well with levelling – intensifying and easing exercises so that everyone reaches their own limit. Entirely in keeping with the slogan “It’s not about the size of the girl in the fight, it’s about the size of the fight in the girl”, and that of course goes for the guys too. Unlike a Jumping Basic class, this format demands just as much arm work as leg work. Whatever the legs do on the mat, the arms do on the bag. A typical Jumping meets Boxing class looks like this.

I use warm up 1 and 2 from a classic Basic class. The main part of the class consists of basic steps that I combine with boxing elements for the arms, sometimes kickboxing moves on the mat, and work on the punchbag. In the toning part the arm and core muscles take centre stage. The class ends with a typical cooldown 1 and 2 from the Jumping Basic class.

All my baby needed now was a name. And since I am a big fan of concise, simple class titles that get the content across, I found “Jumping meets Boxing” very fitting. The motto of the class: go hard or go home.

So if you fancy making your arm and shoulder muscles burn alongside your legs, just come by the Recover Fight Club in Neuss.

You can also find short HIIT videos on my blog and workout inspiration with and on the trampoline on my Instagram and Facebook channels.

In that spirit: train insane or remain the same.

Yours, Julia

Last but not least, I have a Jumping meets Boxing playlist for you.
